South Africa Documentary

In 2009 I was commissioned to head to South African with a Children’s Choir and document the experience.  In the end there was no budget and there would be no other way to recoup the money I would be losing from other paying gigs, but I wanted the experience and the travel and housing costs were covered.  This was a huge lesson altogether as I had to navigate getting an ATA Carnet just to make sure my gear was not being brought into the country to be sold.  I spent 2 weeks traveling from Johannesburg, Soweto, Pretoria, Durban and Capetown. Since then my appreciation for traveling lighter, smarter and more efficiently has been a goal, but you have to go through it to learn right?

Here is the gear I took with me as a I was the only Cinematographer, sound, data wrangler, well shit I was the only one on this trip:

  • (2) HVX200
  • (6) 32GB P2 Cards w/ adaptor
  • (2) MonfrottoTripods
  • (1) Sennheiser ME66 Shotgun Mic
  • (3) Sennheiser Cardoid Mics
  • (3) Mic Stands
  • (2) Sennheiser Lav Mics
  • Macbook Pro w/ 3 500GB External HD
